Aunt Betty..........A wonderful and fun person who will always remain in our hearts.

Elizabeth (Betty) Updike, age 94, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Nye Legacy.

Betty was born September 11, 1922, to Jack and Madge (White) Barada in Rosalie, Nebraska. She was the second daughter born to the family that would later total 8 children. Betty was a 1939 graduate of Lyons High School.

Betty married Kenneth Updike on July 3, 1943. She worked at the 'bomber plant' during World War II and later became a stay at home mother until the children were grown. She later worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills until her retirement, which was necessitated by the need to play more golf! An avid golfer, she played and placed in many tournaments around the state and even scored a hole in one. She also enjoyed bowling, was inducted into the Fremont Area Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1982, and was a member of the 600 Club. Playing cards, sewing, gardening and in her early years, square dancing were among her other interests.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenny, daughter and son-in-law Sharon and C.H. Grubb, son Harold Updike, brothers Rex, Kenneth, Dale and William Barada, sisters Althea Byers and Charlotte Slaughter.

She is survived by her daughter in law Wilma (Kraemer) Updike of Waterloo, two grandsons Matthew (Dawn) Updike of Fremont, Jules (Ashley) Updike of Omaha, three great-grandsons Evan and Andrew Updike of Fremont and Jack Updike of Omaha, sister Jo Ann Kubik of Casa Grande, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

Winnipeg, Canada

Next stop Winnipeg, Canada to see a friend we meet while cruising.......Jo-Ann. It was great to see her and catch up on old times. She made a lovely birthday dinner for me and took us all over Winnipeg to see the sights. My favorite was the ZOO but the downtown river area was fun too. We finally had some poutine.....and fun on the river ride.

Thanks again Jo-Ann for a great visit.....wish we had more time so much to see and do in Winnipeg.

Great Visit with the Nebraska Family

Next stop was Waterloo/Omaha, Fremont and Lyons Nebraska to have some family time. Bonnie and Aunt Jo Ann were out from AZ and Bill and Jackie flew in for the week from North Carolina so we had a full house at the family reunion hosted by Jules and Ashley Updike. Aunt Betty was still with us so we also got to visit with her several times while we were there. We stayed at 2 Rivers Park in Waterloo/Omaha area and also had 4 nights at Fremont Lakes campground.

On Friday night, July 28th, we had a Fish Boil out at the lakes hosted by Sandy & Rod.....fun time!

Alan played golf with cousin Mike and Cheryl a couple of times and Wilma and I played 9 holes with him on a nice course in Valley.

The Barada family reunion was great.....thx again Jules and Ashley. First we took 1st Cousins and one with their spouses, then 2nd cousins and one with their spouses.....

Oldest, Mike Barada, and Youngest, Henry Barada...........at the reunion.

Got the whole gang together for a picture then took "family" pics......

Thanks again to Wilma for running us around, and being a mail stop for us.....you're the best!

Then it was on to Lyons for a couple nights. Was so great to have time with Sam and Loretta and thanks Sam for taking us to the old farmstead and all around, brought back a lot of good memories.
