Panama to Florida Part II

We passed Cancun on the mainland on the way to Isla Mujeres. (above Cancun)

Alan enjoyed being back in Mexico. One of the first stops were, what else, street tacos!

Now that’s one cold beer!......................Gotta love Mexico.

Jim and April headed ashore for a relaxing night at one of the local hotels. They enjoyed a nice dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant.

More wonderful pics of Mexico:

Last night in Mexico………..

Next morning it was time to leave for the 3 1/2 day trip to Florida. It was a motor boat ride until the last day when the winds got up to around 20 kts. We were lucky to have a 2 kt. current in our favor.

talk about flat seas….

….

On the second day out we passed Cuba about 20 miles out.

On the second day out Mr. Auto Pilot started to act up. Alan and Jim doing triage:

Alan caught one more dinner size Dorado on this leg of the trip and that was a good thing because the refrigeration had totally given up the ghost!

Land ahoy…..Miami

About 4 hours later it was time to enter the ICW (Intra Coastal Waterway) into Fort Lauderdale. It was Memorial weekend so boy… were there a lot of boats!

Once in the ICW was the first, of what would be many, many more, opening bridges. It was crazy with all the boats but they made it through with no problem.

After 55 days and aprox 1,600 miles Effie was tucked into Hall of Fame Marina in Ft. Lauderdale. After some provisioning, buying a computer, and some down time Jim and April rented a car and headed to North Carolina to see family. On their return they headed to the airport and on June 8th they flew home. Mac met them at the hotel in San Francisco and traded hugs and car keys and the next morning flew to meet Alan in Ft. Lauderdale.

SV Effie and her crew, Alan and Mac, cannot put into words the appreciation and love we have for Jim and April. It was a long trip….hopefully fun at times but also difficult at times….but without them we couldn’t have gotten Effie from Panama to Florida. Thank you………..

We just sat down for the second time to watch the blog. How lucky we were to have done the trip. A vacation that let us help you out. I think Alan, Jim, Effie, and I had the best ying and yang thing going. Alan was a great captain. Not only did he keep Effie happy, but he played his guitar, made popcorn, and put on some movies. As you know the best part of cruisin is the people you meet along the way. We hooked up with some of your old friends and made new ones. Jim has now seen Canada, Mexico, the South Pacific and the Western Caribbean. Once a sailor always a sailor. As we tell everyone, cruising friends are the best. You and Alan are the best of the best.
Thanks so much,
Jim and April
