Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo, different this year but the same and still one of our favorite places. Rick's Bar is gone but Casa del Faro took it's place with Rick's old partner, Memo, still running it with a new partner. SailFest, the cruisers fund raiser for the local school children was slow to start but with a little nudge from Alan we got it underway. We won't be attending this year but we've done a lot of work helping to get it underway. We miss "Open Mike" at Rick's on Friday nights but Tricia, the owner of The Sunset Bar, was kind enough to help us get one started there. It was a little slow to start, but it's picking up speed. Tony and Sue, John and Steph's neighbors and good friends, arrived a couple of days before brother John and Stephanie so of course we had to show them around and have a few beers and a lotof great food. John and Stephanie arrived on Saturday and the fun began. (Effie's the second boat back in the center with the little white riding sail up in the back.) Mac got the kayak up and running so we could take it in for Tony and Sue to enjoy during their stay.

"A Day at the Beach in Los Gatos and the Great Dinghy Adventure"
John, Tony, and Sue brought the kayak down to the beach so we could all head over to Los Gatos. We tied the kayak to the back of the dinghy and off we went. We had a great time sitting on the beach, drinking beer, snorkeling, drinking beer, Mac having a "grandma fix", and drinking more beer. On the way back Sue took the kayak and the rest of us got into the dink, and then the fun began. While trying to reposition weight in the dinghy Tony moved towards the front. Now we had too much weight in the front and the bow went under filling the boat with water. Quickly realizing what happened Tony moved back at which time the bow bounced up out of the water sending John and Mac flying. They both ended up in the water..........so with the dinghy 3/4 full of water the rescue began. John got back in the dinghy but it took me 5 mins. to stop laughing, and you all know how I can laugh, so they could get me back in the boat. We pumped the water out and were again on our way, laughing all they way back to Madera beach.

Of course we had lots of good food, drink, and merriment. One morning Alan cooked eggs Benedict, with the help of John and Tony.

And of course, there was music........we all attended the CD release party for Jimmy Mamou with some dancing and great times.

Alan had fun playing at open mike while Maggie had fun sleeping in his guitar case.

All too soon it was our last evening with John and Steph. They took us to one of our favorite restaurants, Coconuts, to help them celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. We ate, drank wine, and talked for 3 1/2 hours..........what a great time and such a nice way to end our time here in wonderful Zihuatanejo. Of course the evening had to end with Mexican coffee. The show is something everyone has to experience at least once. John and Steph flew home on Saturday and Effie & crew will be heading further south on Monday.
Here's to further adventures!!!!!!!!!!!
