Medora, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and The Enchanted Highway

We stayed at the Medora Campground....nice park, full hook ups, good size spots, and friendly staff.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is fabulous! We were not well aware of the park before we went but fell in love with it. The first day we did the South Unit. We got to see wild horses and lots and lots of prairie dogs.....Kallie loves prairie dogs....it was so much fun to watch her as she watched them.
The scenery was beautiful and at times breath taking and we were so surprised but very pleased to have made the stop here.

The next day we drove up to the North Unit, about an hour drive, then took the loop. Shorter drive than the loop at the South Unit but again beautiful scenery and at the end turn around we came across a herd of bison, always fun to drive around and through bison. Jake's favorite is bison and he was alert and intently watching as we drove through them.

Everyone told us the Pitch Fork BBQ Dinner was a must. It's at the top of a hill so you get a great view of the area. There were lots and lots of people there and we had a threat of rain. You sit family style at long tables and section by section they let you line up for dinner. You have a choice of steak or a combination of chicken, ribs, and sides. After dinner everyone, including us, headed over for the Medora Musical. It was in a large outdoor theater and quite the production. Large stage with changing scenes and at some points of the show they even had horses on stage. Lots of singing and dancing and all the kids (remember we're in our late 60's so kids is a relative term) were very good.

Definitely could have spent more time there.

On our way to South Dakota we took "The Enchanted Highway." It was developed by a man from the town of Regent to help promote their town. He got the farming community together to make very large metal sculptures out of things they had laying around to entice people to drive their hwy and come into their town. Not sure it worked but we had fun stopping and seeing their work and enjoyed staying in their RV Park. Large grassy spaces and they had full hookups and sewer so was able to get some laundry done. Don't laugh, when you are on the road all the time it's nice when you have an afternoon and the hookups needed to get the laundry done so you can be off to your next adventure.
