August 27th – September 4th, 2017

Cherry Hill Park – College Park, Maryland – Washington DC

Excited to finally be here, closet RV park to Washington DC. Nice park, a bit pricey, spots were on the small size but we were right next to Wifi tower and they had lots of nice open green areas to walk the dogs.

They had buses to take you to the Metro, just like our BART system, which took us into Washington, DC…..too crazy to try to drive in with our big truck. First day venturing out we took the Metro into DC. Got our first look at the city and went to the Holocaust Museum. Needed reservations we made on line prior to heading in. They are free but they limit the number of people that can go through the museum at a time. Unable to take many photos but impressive place, very sad, can’t believe such horrific things could happen. After the museum we found out one of the best places to eat were government buildings cafeterias so we grabbed a bite in the Agricultural Bldg. Then back on the Metro and back to the RV Park.

We took an all day DC bus tour with Grey lines. The bus picked us up at the RV Park but then we had a 1 hour wait at the DC bus/train station for the second bus.

The tour bus was fun, however, a double decker. The day was beautiful so we got to ride outside up top all day. Long day and we were tired at the end of the day. A little rushed at each stop but good way to get an overall view of DC. Luckily we went right up and got a tour of the Capitol Building before we had to get back on the bus for the next stop.

After the Capitol we went on to the White House.

After the White House we also saw Martin Luther King Memorial;
(Note....working with new program having problems with rotating photos)

The Franklin D Roosevelt Memorial;

The Pentagon;
(Again problems with rotation but the sideways picture is the 911 tribute at the Pentagon)

The Lincoln Memorial;

The Vietnam Memorial….Alan was so thoughtful and looked up and took photo’s of names of family members for many of his friends.

and the Korean War Memorial;

On another day we took the Metro in and went to the Air & Space Museum then went for a late lunch at the famous Old Ebbitt Grill. It’s the in place for DC but everyone was on break so we didn’t get to see anyone famous but had a great meal.

We also took the evening tour from the RV Park, best tour we took. The tour guide was a kick and very, very knowledgeable. He actually got out of the bus and went with us at each monument and was a wealth of information. Saw some of the same as our day tours but at night with the lights so much more impressive.

We also got to see the WWII Memorial:

The Jefferson Memorial:

While we were taking our tours, we had a fabulous dog walker for the dogs named Sandy. Would recommend the RV Park, closest to DC with several tour options and a little café with Okay food for those days we were too tired to cook when we got home.
Overall thoughts…Even though we were disappointed to be there during such turbulent times, the place definitely has a special feeling about it. So much history…….
